A celebration of Western novels, comics, movies, television and literature, both classics and contemporary. Although comments will be posted on some entries and not others, I won't necessarily be "reviewing" each item. I just appreciate Westerns in general and hope that fellow kindred spirits will, too. MONTE WALSH (2002 VERSION)
Tom Selleck is one of a handful of actors nowadays who does any justice to Western characters in movies. Sam Elliot is another, although he is not in this movie.
I knew, almost from the git-go, that this was going to be good when Monte (Mr. Selleck) starts mixing whiskey into his can of peaches. Works for me.
This even has the "vengeful cook" sequence from the original Lee Marvin/Jack Palance classic and it makes for the biggest laugh in the movie.
The only thing missing, for me, was hearing Mama Cass Elliott singing, "The Good Times Are Coming". Still, I highly recommend this one even if you've never seen the original.
